Our Story

I have always loved the changing of the seasons. The way light changes gives way to new perspectives. Sometimes subtle, more often up-ending, but always with its own beauty and appeal. I find those shifts to be an inspiration in my work.

Ellie Lenhart

My journey began with an internal struggle of head and heart.  As often it does, head won out, I began my career in education, a more practical choice, after all it was the seventies in the south.  And for 16 years  I taught.   But my interest in architecture and design was not easily quieted.  I found ways to stoke my passion.  Stolen moments in a bookstore pouring over interior design textbooks. Weekends spent covered in paint or fabric swatches in friends’ homes helping them breathe new life into their spaces.  A time I enjoy looking back on.

But then change came.  We relocated to Tennessee for my husband’s career.  It was going to be a great opportunity for him and our family.  But for me, it was going to change my life.  I was offered an apprenticeship with a licensed Interior Designer.  Finally, I had arrived at the destination I longed for…poised with a millions questions.  I spent the next three years discovering the answers and soaking up every available detail.  I was home.

In May 1999, I decided this time to trust my heart.  I opened Lenhart Design Company, my own interior design shop. It proved to be a practical choice after all. Since then I have worked with hundreds of clients, vendors and craftsmen on a variety of projects, both residential and commercial. But they all share a common end: a functional, timeless, beautifully detailed environment.  I love sharing that with my clients.

You deserve spaces designed to enrich your life, provide beauty and comfort through all the seasons – of the year, of your life.  I would love to share that with you.
